Prerequisites

Identify a low-cost settlement and its surroundings, prior visit to the settlement.

This activity project can be integrated along with the housing design studio while visiting and studying Informal settlements.

Procedure

Step 1 : Visit the informal settlements and interact with the residents. Observe and understand how the households deal with the seeping water issues and the kind of quick fix low cost solutions they install. 

Step 2: Study the low-cost methods and material for waterproofing in such a context, through internet or market based research. 

Step 3: Derive  low cost waterproofing design solutions and material based on the solutions the settlements use and market based research

Step 4: Share the learnings and design with the community in Informal settlements.
