To sensitise students to the land rights related challenges in informal settlements and their relationship with real estate development.
Requirements
Movie depicting land rights related challenges in informal settlements (such as Kaala or Mohan Joshi’s Hazir Ho)
Prerequisites
None
Procedure
Step 1: Students are told that they will be watching a movie and will need to keep an eye out for the characters, their roles, the scenarios depicted in the movie and the impact of various scenarios on the lives of the different characters from a land rights perspective.
Step 2: The movie is screened in the classroom.
Step 3: Students are organized into small groups and asked to share and discuss their learnings and observations of the movie and present their observations in the next class.
Step 4: In the next class, students share their observations group-wise.
Step 5 : The professor builds on observations shared by students to provide insights on the scenario of land rights related injustices in informal housing communities and its relationship with real estate development.
