Objective:

To discuss whether an air conditioner is a symbol of higher socioeconomic status in society.

Outcome:

Students will realize that the socio-economic status of the family doesn’t depend on the method by which they choose to cool their homes.

Procedure:

Step 1: Initiate a discussion around the following question to students: 

  1. Has Air conditioners become a common thing in every home?
  2. Do we conflate the socio-economic status of a family based on whether their homes are air cooled or air-conditioned?
  3. Do we consider air conditioning as a status symbol? 

Step 2: Give a minute to students to think on the posed questions. 

Step 3: Students share their views on the questions and note the points.

Step 4: Reflect on the collective findings and perspectives of the discussion.
