Objective

To identify climatic conditions of a classroom.

Outcome

Students will realize that climatic conditions are an outcome of temperature as well as humidity.

Requirements

Heater, Humidifier, Air Conditioner, Sling Psychrometer, Psychrometric Chart.

Procedure

Step 1: Identify two classrooms to perform the activity. The first classroom should have an air conditioner inside it, whereas equip the second room with a heater and a humidifier.

Step 2: Set the air conditioning temperature at 18°C, and leave it on for 20 minutes.

Step 3: In the other room, switch on the humidifier and the heater and leave it on for 20 minutes.

Step 4: After 20 minutes, take the students to each room.

Step 5: Ask the students to identify which city the atmosphere of the room feels like.

Step 6: Note dry bulb and wet bulb temperature of each room.

Step 7: Plot the dry bulb and wet bulb temperature for each room on a psychrometric chart.

Step 8: Estimate the specific and absolute humidity of each room.
