{"id":2541,"date":"2023-06-22T12:21:41","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T12:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fairconditioning.org\/fc-activity\/?post_type=activity&#038;p=2541"},"modified":"2023-06-22T12:21:41","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T12:21:41","slug":"smart-city-vs-common-sense-city","status":"publish","type":"activity","link":"https:\/\/fairconditioning.org\/fc-activity\/activity\/smart-city-vs-common-sense-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Smart City vs Common Sense City"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-2\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Objective<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>To understand \u2018Smart cities\u2019 and critically question the need and logic behind Smart city development via debating its relevance versus \u2018\u00c7ommon sense\u2019 cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Outcome<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will develop an ability to critique popular notions supported by mainstream media about the Smart city building movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>None<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Fundamental knowledge of Smart cities and cities that are evolved organically (Common sense cities)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedure<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Step 1: <\/em><\/strong>Create two groups from amongst students in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Step 2: <\/em><\/strong>One group supports the notion of creating \u2018Smart cities\u2019, where technology is the go-to solution for every urban problem, whereas the other group supports the idea of \u2018Common sense cities\u2019 with simple and humane solutions and development approaches<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 3: Certain prompt points and questions suggested are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>What is the difference between a Smart city and a Common Sense city?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How environmentally and socially inclusive are both the approaches?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does technology really have a solution to the increasing climate chaos and stress?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does a smart city address the amount of heat that buildings generate and gain and its contribution to thermally comfortable spaces to all people irrespective of their economic status?&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Step 4:<\/em><\/strong> Both groups prepare their perspectives and debate.
