This newsletter, from the FC team reporting from Pune and Geneva, includes recent developments on our activities dedicated to enhancing energy efficiency in the indoor thermal cooling sector in India.
1. Integrating Sustainable Cooling and Energy Efficiency within Architecture Curricula
The academic leg of the Fairconditioning programme (ACIP) has now organised 5 Training of Trainers (ToT) workshops in 5 colleges witnessing an overall participation by 23 colleges across 4 major cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Bengaluru. The latest ToT was held at REVA School of Architecture, REVA University from 12th to 14th March 2016 in Bengaluru. But do these 3-day Fairconditioning ToT workshops targeted towards training architecture professors ensure an effective integration of sustainable cooling and energy efficiency (EE) concepts in the curricula? Not quite. This is why the ACIP team is now active in conducting follow-up half-day workshops with the management and faculty across all colleges/universities in Mumbai, Pune and Delhi where ToTs were previously held…

1. Training of Teachers
3 day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for Architecture Professors titled “THOUGHTFUL COOLING” was conducted from 03 – 05 October 2015 at Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies (KRVIA) Mumbai. 12 specialized trainers shared their knowledge with 18 Architecture professors from 5 colleges and helped them integrate Environment Sustainability as 3rd pillar in their curricula, giving it equal importance as space and structure…

1. Training Practitioners: “Modelling Sustainability – Training of Architects”
This 3 day event organized by FCat the Brick college of Architecture, Pune was designed to enable practicing architects see how building design directly affects energy performance. Architects understood how to carefully select modelling software to visualize practically how Efficient Design and Sustainable Cooling Technologies impact energy costs, both upfront investment costs and downstream running energy cost. The Pune event is first in series. The program aims to hold workshops in 5 cities across India: Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai…

1. Tooling Architects for Energy Efficiency
Parallel to Academic Curricula Integration Project, our newly launched Building Energy Modelling Advisory (BEMA) project will be conducted over 3 years. The project seeks to equip leading professionals in Architecture and Engineering field to improve energy efficiency in the process of building design and equipment in cooling components. Practitioners will be trained to use a handpicked software tool to run energy performance simulations of planned buildings and cooling components. This will give them an understanding of how sound design choices help reap considerable energy savings and lower energy bills…
